57 alien species: Are we alone in the universe?

57 alien species: Are we alone in the universe?

I had just read the article by Professor Johnson in the “Alien” magazine about the 57 alien species tabulated by Sergeant Clifford Stone, who previously worked on top-secret government projects. This article asked us the same question which has haunted mankind from time immemorial : Are we alone in the universe? Professor Johnson was sure that it was highly improbable that our earth alone was the only planet in the universe to have intelligent species of plants, animals and humans. There are billions of stars in our galaxy, the Milky way, and there are billions of such galaxies in our universe. How many light years it would take to go from one end of this universe to other end - no one really knows and the mind boggles at the enormity of the distances we are talking about. In such a vast expanse it is highly probable that there must be thousands of earth like environments supporting life. On these earth like planetary systems, intelligent beings must be living their lives wondering whether they were the only intelligent living creatures to inhabit this vast universe. With these thoughts clouding my mind I don’t know when I fell asleep and started dreaming or was it a dream?

I saw a great round object, emanating a strange light emerge from the far end of the sky and it started to move towards me. The round object got bigger and bigger as it approached me. It hovered sometimes right at the top of my house as if trying to ascertain whether it was feasible to land in the open field, right at the back of my house.

After a few minutes of inspection the space ship started to land and through its innards emerged two creatures with strange features. They had four legs and two arm like appendage. There was a strange halo around their skulls and they approached me in a very slow gait. One of them extended his arm like appendage as if trying to shake hands with me. I was speechless and felt my hands moving towards them as if guided by some magnetic force. The taller of the two spoke to me in a language I could not comprehend at first, but as my ears got accustomed to the strange sound, I could hear the incoherent sound turn into English words. He was asking about the health of my ailing mother.

My mother was suffering from a type of neck cancer which had spread to the lymph nodes of her neck. The doctors had given her just a few months to live. I didn’t know how the aliens knew of her condition but I guided both of them into my house and into the bedroom of my ailing mother. She was fast asleep. Both of them were looking at my mother and then at me, as if empathizing with me. I could see a small tear drop gleaming in the eyes of one of the alien. The tall alien brought out a small instrument from the fold of his costume and pointed it at the neck of my mother. Suddenly I could see a flash of powerful light emanating from the instrument and entering the neck area of my mother like a laser beam. This process must have continued for about 15 seconds. After that both the aliens shook hands with me and returned to their air ship, which rose and soon disappeared into the night sky.

I woke up with a start in the morning. My mother was calling out to me. I ran into her bedroom and was pleasantly surprised to see her. Her ailing haggard face and sinew body was replaced by the visage and physique of my old mother- healthy and strong. I could not believe my eyes that she was apparently now free of cancer.

I shook my head and pinched myself to be sure whether I was asleep or not. No, I was wide awake. Then I thought about the dream I had the previous night and then my eyes fell on the strange looking instrument lying at the bedside of my mother.
